Surrender Devotional: Day 5

33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” (Matthew 6:33-34)

True and blessed surrender starts with putting God in His rightful place as King of our souls. Faith, blessings, and peace will grow as we continue to supplant the anxieties of this world with His Kingdom. To “seek first” means to do so NOW. There is little time to waste. Today is our only reality for tomorrow is an un-promised dream. Jesus calls us to pick up our cross and die daily. The urgency of the gospel requires us to live in the moment. As you do so, grace will become the ever sweeter gift it is and our priorities will tremble with a renewed fervor. These immediate moments call us to deeper levels of surrender.

So this is true embattled courage, to take His Kingdom and examine all you hold dear under its power – for your desires to take a backseat. The quality of your life and depth of your relationship to Christ relies on this alone.

Lord, help me to put you first in my heart. Let all that I do, say, and think flow out of this. Calm my anxieties and worries with you peace today as I seek to walk instep with you. Thank you that you alone are trustworthy.
