You Are a Total Mess

“The more secrets you got, the more unhappier you are” – Scott Avett

I am a firm believer that Christ followers should be the world’s most honest people. This however goes beyond the courtroom and everyday opportunities we have to take the high road. An honest Christ like life means being brutally honest with the dark shadows of our souls. The more we hold back our true identity – that person we lament about changing in the still of night – the more we rob the world of the rare trait of authenticity. There is something to be said for unleashing the gritty realities of ourselves to the cold world that surrounds us. It frees our soul as well as shows those around us that we indeed are a ruined work of art in process.

“Never let your fear decide your fate” – Awolnation

The barrier between us and this way of living is fear. We rather live a burdened and painful existence than to reveal our murky spirit to the world. The very thing that is needed for our peace, is the very thing we reject time and time again. Yet, we would be surprised at how many people: 1.already know we are a total mess 2.struggle with the same insecurities and failings that we do.

So the next time you feel like impressing or putting on that polished facade, stop and examine your motivations. Could the people you are talking to benefit more from your frayed edges than your perfect reflections? You are a work in progress. Don’t act like you are special or different than those around you. We all share that beautifully broken image of a creation found lacking. Embrace it. Be authentic. Love others from your failings. They will thank you.
