John 2: Backwards God

(Read John 2 First)

“Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” John 2:10

Jesus is the King of a backwards Kingdom. Our perspective and convictions – even those that appear logical –  many times fly in the face of God’s wisdom. In Jesus’ great patience, he saves the best for the climax. In a culture of the immediate, He alone holds the ultimate.

Change hurts. Following Jesus is meant to change us and thus we meet his ways head on with our stubborn souls. Therefore, soul work hurts. Yet this enduring belief that the good wine is coming is the anchor of our faith.

What is Jesus bringing next? I guarantee it’s unexpected. It will be late to our clock but perfect on his.

But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people and needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man. John 2:24-25

Take heart, the creator of the universe, DNA, love, and the oceans knows you. Not only the you shown, but the you concealed. The you who wrestles, fights, and cries. He knows your pattern of life inside and out. Because of this, you can trust him. Even when he asks you to go against the norm. His kingdom looks different, and that’s a blessed thing.

Pray: Thank you Jesus for saving the best for last. We stand on the promise that you will return and usher in a final peace. Until then, may we cling to your hope and wisdom. Give us the bold confidence that you know what is best for us. We thank you for being a God who is ever present in our daily grinds. You are alive in the struggles and joys of the day. May we see you clearer today. Teach us your ways. Amen
