7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7)
Discipline can be counter to what we so easily settle for.
Yet, a God sized purpose demands a relentless yes to discipline
When we pursue such discipline, we pursue how God has wired us. His spirit within us is what turns us back to who He has intended us to be. The human condition so often lets the wave of fear and timidity rob us of our purpose. This is not only life stealing but it is anti-Gospel and anti-creation. When saints stand up boldly in rejection of their lower nature, God moves in incredible ways.
The great thing about redemption is that it starts fresh with each new day. The regrets of yesterday have no hold to the power of today within you. An effective and passionate life tomorrow, depends on the thousand relentless “Yes”‘s to discipline today.
Where do you have to take a step toward your empowered self? Where do you need more discipline?
Lord, grant us the power to live within the incredible discipline you have already given us. May we have the courage to choose better and to be stubborn about our pursuit of you.
