It has been a bewildering 6 months since the first known American has been diagnosed with a virus we are now learning to live with. With this comes a daily roller coaster of emotions. From crying in a locked bathroom, to the elated joy a Amazon delivery brings, every day (what day is it?) brings with it challenges and newfound mental health challenges. That is why in an attempt of levity, I am posting some things I have found encouraging. I am thankful for these things (even if just sarcastically). These are a few more of my Pandemic Joys.
Hand Sanitizer
In recent months, this has replaced our currency. This germ killing mystery liquid destroys all sort of invisible enemies. Not only that, but it also reminds you of just how many open cuts you have on your hands. Don’t remember the paper cut you received last week? Sanitizer reminds you like a siren blowing through your pain threshold. Sure, it hurts, but it also reminds us that it’s working! This is the smell and sting of freedom my friend! Also, it has been nice to see a variety of alcohol companies stepping up to craft their own signature blend of alcohol and pain.

Your Facebook Feed
Remember when Facebook was mainly a way to share pictures of cute puppies/babies or quizzes telling us which Disney princess we are (I always felt like I was more Ariel than Snow White)? Well, in a bonkers2020 we are sooo past that. Now we get videos of “doctors” exposing the “truth” about Covid and Bill Gates. It is also helpful to know what your one time high school acquaintance thinks about reopening schools.

Time Itself
The Pandemic has disrupted any grasp we thought we had on the concept of time. I feel as if I need Bill Nye to simply explain what day is it. Phrases like “ugh, it feels like Monday” and “thank God it’s Friday” has lost all meaning to us. In their place, comes fan favorite phrases like “wait, yesterday was . . . Wednesday I think . . . so that makes today . . . hold on . . . ugh, just pass my coffee” and “am I supposed to be working today? where’s my Zoom shirt . . . you know, the one with buttons”. Sure, we have all felt that our days have been replaced with reruns of Lost, but all us procrastinators now have an excuse built in for why we were late or didn’t show up. . . . . oh wait.

Hope you are all staying safe and looking after each other. Remember, taking it one day at a time, is still great advice even if you do not exactly know what day it is.
