3 But the Lord is faithful; He will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. – 2 Thessalonians 3:3
*This short passage is deep and rich in comfort. My words will always fail in describing the depth of Scripture. I urge you to meditate on these few words today, emphasize each word and echo it within you. Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a pastor in Germany during WWII. While running an illegal seminary, he would give his students one small passage and ask them to dwell on it throughout the day, asking for insight. I recommend the same exercise for us today. If you need help, here are my initial thoughts:
What does it mean to be faithful?
Perhaps there is no term as foreign as this. We find ourselves shoulder to shoulder with others also crippled by the world’s demands. This is what makes the concept of a faithful God so intriguing – His character is the completion of everything we wish to become and that which we long to see in others.
To be faithful is to be constant, regardless of external factors. In the spiritual context, to be faithful is to persevere through darkness, clutching the light within. Our reliance is on thee, as our creator is faithful we shall rest in the promises granted long ago.
Creator, feed the flame within so we can love those beyond our grasp. Grant us the faith of a child as we strive for more of you, the protector of our souls.
Amen
