7 It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel. – Philippians 1:7
Any time I get stuck in my writing and faith, I go back to what is simple. For me, the Bible reminds me of a story that I have on all too many days stepped out of alignment with. As thinking and creating creatures, we need to have something to inspire us daily. These are the avenues that can jolt us out of the funk we find ourselves in and provide an inspiration to keep going.
When you cannot find words
When you cannot find hope
These avenues of grace need to be leaned upon. These help you weather such storms.
The Bible works like this for me because it reminds me of the greater picture and humiliates me enough to remember that my life is not my own, and in order for it to be of any value, it must be given away for the sake of others. Letters like Paul’s to the Philippians help me navigate ego and pride, and return me home.
“for you are all partakers with me of grace . . .”
Grace must be received before it can be given. In order to begin to understand our story, we must be willing to see our need everyday for a re-write. Paul is putting him into the same category that we are. To us, this seems absurd. Next to Jesus, there is no more influential character in all of Christian history than Paul. Yet, he was able to see grace as the great equalizer. In the end, we are all to be children of such grace.
