29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. – Matthew 11:29
Do we “let” His Spirit teach us?
Do we live in a certain manner that keeps the door open to the speech and movement of God?
These are the questions we use to self-examine our daily faith. Never forget that this present journey with Christ is ripe with daily assessment and reflection. Our slips and falls can be made up, with grace, but our strides and successes can also be lost in moments of weakness. Faith is a continual surrendering of self; a constant belief in the wisdom from above. Though it is undoubtedly a war within us, this and this alone is where our souls find true rest.
Our teacher is gentle. Many of us can recall teachers or parents who embodied cruelty. They taught through gritted teeth and mean spirits. The lessons they presented were not up for debate or collaboration. Yet, Jesus shows us a better way. His means are humble, even if His Truth is unwavering and unfailing. The best educators know that learning is collaborative, and wisdom does not need harsh defending. Elsewhere in Scripture, we are told that His word will not return void. There is a gentle assurance in His lessons. They are true and He is kind.
If the lessons are true, and our teacher is kind, then let us not lose hope. Wage war on the sin that keeps you from accepting this daily conviction. Enter His peace today.
