105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path – Psalm 119:105
While there is a certain wisdom granted to us from above, the desire to act on it is completely rests with us. There are moments in this life, perhaps all too few, where things seem illuminated and our path seems certain. The rest of the time, we need wisdom, direction, and patience.
Yet even with lamps, the way is dark. No lamp can fully make up for complete darkness. We still move with a certain inherited degree of apprehension. The fact that anyone is able to make decisions is remarkable. Our God is never accused of being “too” present. His parenting style is more hands off than we would many times like, but this is for our own edification. He is present but His presence turns our idea of presence upside down. Many times we have to look back to our history of His movement before we can find the courage to go forward. A healthy memory of times He has interceded can be our best tool for going forward.
Martin Luther King Jr. once said something to the effect that faith is walking through a stairway when you only see the step in front of you. This is a beautiful description of how we are to live. We walk by daily faith. Scared and frustrated, we still step ever so cautiously into the unknown. This is our narrative. This is our being. We can somehow have faith that our great Director will be in the shadows as well as in the lighted guide. Darkness can be seen as the stage for both a horror movie and an adventure.
Choose adventure.
Decisions are hard. Lean into a God who is both present and removed from the bonds of circumstance. Know that what you choose, will partner with His will for a better story.
