Learning to Walk

5 but whoever keeps His word, in Him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in Him: 6 whoever says he abides in Him ought to walk in the same way in which He walked – 1John 2:5-6

Do we wish to walk His way?

Our in Him is determined by how we walk by Him. If this doesn’t terrify us, we need to further examine our faith. Ours must be a life of continued self audits, not to embarrass but to determine what is and what could be. It is crucial for us to both audit our faith condition, but to also remember. Our Lord doesn’t move – we do. It is important in these times of constant straying that we return to our roots. These are what nourish and breathe life into our weary souls.

His life is a symbol. As both fully God and fully human, we look to His time on this earth as a symbol. When questions arise of direction and choice, we can look to Him as a roadmap.

So how did Jesus live?

We could write volumes on this and some already have much better than I could put to paper (or screen). When we examine the Scriptures we see many different themes, many come to us from our own situation and current life choices. We define His life through our circumstances. This is both a great thing and something we must again self audit. We shouldn’t let it be a license to our own bias, but a challenge to change to His divine standard.

What was perhaps most revolutionary of His life was His redemptive spirit. Christ lived believing that every person, situation, and lifestyle could be redeemed. He died for this. It flowed from every action and word. We can then apply this to our life – to the people we think are hopeless and the circumstances we find no relief from. His was not a false optimism but a rugged grit of belief.

Our challenge today is to carry this redemptive spirit into our interactions. May His redemption break through the negativity and trouble of the day.
