21 Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good. – Romans 12:21
It is easy to become overwhelmed. While this has always been the case, it seems like the time we live in is just different. Recently, I talked to my doctor who lamented the stress people feel. She explained how endless news cycles, horrendous politics, mass shootings, and health concerns, have all been creating a perfect storm of anxiety in this plugged in world we live. We talked about devices, and how our overuse can stress us out. My doctor explained the amount of mentally unhealthy masquerading as “normal” these days.
The Bible talks about times in which what is good will be lost for something more urgent. That listeners will no longer grasp Truth and will simply find their own. There are times when this evil wins. As followers, we are to desperately seek out a better way, regardless of opinion or what we want to believe. The truth is, “good” is difficult in times of great evil.
While evil works as a blanket – smothering the life and light of those who it oppresses, good works as a small seed. With time, it grows in strength and multiplies, but it takes patience. The daily good deeds we do will always outlast us. Good has no expiration date, but evil does. Do not grow weary of doing good, saint. The small good we do in the name of our Father, will reverberate a lifetime and beyond. Don’t let the darkness win today.
When you love your neighbor
Forgive your enemy
Buy their coffee (unless it’s decaf)
And may Christ use all of these for His purpose
