Embrace Your Moment

Currently I find myself in a rising tide of unknown. Life has changed and I am trying to approach the new with optimism – which is not typically a trait I am a strong genetic carrier of. There is a dangerous mix of freedom and doubts that make going forward more of a game show than a climactic life episode.

We live in a series of moments. Some carry more weight with them, while in others we find refreshment and energy. The way we recognize and respond to these looms large in molding the life we experience. Many of these moments are frustrating. We try to put these out of their misery as soon as possible. Yet, as we can undoubtedly attest to when we are honest, these are the teachable moments that hidden parts of us look back fondly on. It sucks going through, but ends up refining our character like few moments do.

Maybe the most frustrating of things is the little control we feel. The clouds gather, the fog rolls in, and we feel what was once clear is now forever in question. With obstruction, we question whether to keep on the path ahead, or change course. Both have consequences. We weigh these and they change our moment. There is a certain risk/reward to our moments, but in cruelty we are only granted knowing one avenue while forever questioning the others for a lifetime. If we could only thrive in the uncertainty and welcome the lack of control with open minds. Perhaps this is why people choose to believe in fate and the dubious mantra of “all things happen for a reason.” These give us an escape from our own culpability.

What is your moment trying to teach you? Are you letting it speak?

Today, embrace your moment. Know that it will be a great teacher if you let it.
