Vulnerability is the Heart of Writing

The one thing I have always tried to do in my writing is to provide vulnerability – a glimpse into the real me. Writing has always been for me first, that is to get out the quiet hums and rattles within my head and soul. The best writers are those who can artfully put expression to these inner movements, while providing honest clarity, even to the point of discomfort for the reader. It has been my experience that has shaped me and that is what I wish to share with others. I have seen too many champion vulnerability in theory without actually sharing the darker sides of their complex character.

Friends are made through shared experience. We are bonded together more often by the valleys we share, then the mountain tops we revel in. Successes make for bad stories without the shared struggles that makes it all the sweeter. It is these experiences that make us human and connect us to each other.

This is the heart of writing

This is true with life too. When we live through vulnerability, without the “act”, we discover something extraordinarily human within us and others. That even with all the warts and successes, we are all the same. Regardless of title and alliance, little differentiates us from those around us.

Today, you are free to be yourself and be patient with those who aren’t there yet.
