8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. – Hebrews 13:8
Daily life changes us. We see things, we experience things, we eat things. These all play into some sort of life calculator that spits out a different us at the end. We are a sum of our experiences. What you felt yesterday and to what degree might not necessarily be the same as what you feel today. Tomorrow you may crave a salad, while today you want fries (or everyday . . . . whatever). We all move with the waves of life being shaped by its current and undertow.
Jesus stays the same despite us. We bounce from fad to fad and trend to trend, while He patiently waits. Every few years, someone seems to “discover” a new aspect of His character or Biblical interaction, but what they find has always been. We are simply emphasizing it more at one time or another. While this world moves on shifting sand, He is the rock in the distance – our refuge and strength.
Maybe there are areas we need to stay grounded within. Instead of running away, we need to dig deeper. Instead of finding a quick fix, maybe we need to live in the silence. Our Lord was breathtakingly patient and masterfully human. We look to Him for a better way.
Lord, help us to persist. Show us how to have a inner peace and grit that stays when called and goes when directed. Amen
