Your Spiritual Sense

“The spiritual life is, then, first of all a matter of keeping awake. We must not lose our sensitivity to spiritual inspirations. We must always be able to respond to the slightest warnings that speak, as though by a hidden instinct, in the depth of the soul that is spiritually alive.” – Thomas Merton

We all have a spiritual instinct. With or without faith, there is a sense of the otherness of life. The wise of this world spend their lives tuning their souls to the spiritual vibrations within and beyond us. This speaks of where we came from and unites us to our soul’s origin. Our life becomes nourished when we dig into this side and truly look to mature and enrich it.

If we listen, the Spirit within us has much to say. In the flashing lights of the temporary world that surrounds us is a distraction. It keeps us from uniting with these spiritual simplicities. Truth is always to be simple, but it is not without warring distractions. We wish to complicate it with paperwork and bureaucracy. This has always been the burden of our souls – to complicate the Truth. But the spiritual speaks of a tranquil contentment. It whispers in the still breath of a busy life. When we recognize it, then put its voice on the highest of regards, our lives begin to open up with wisdom and humility. It brings us to a better way to live.

Today, be still. Listen to what your soul is trying to say. It brings peace and a waking presentness to this rushed overcomplicated world.
