“It comes the very moment you wake up each morning. All your wishes and hopes [and fears] for the day rush at you like wild animals. And the first job each morning consists simply in shoving them all back; in listening to that other voice, taking that other point of view, letting that other larger, stronger, quieter life come flowing in.” – C.S. Lewis
Naturally we do not have the mind of Christ. It is not of our nature to have the right thinking that comes from our savior. No, this comes from a continued following of Him through the peaks and valleys which life supplies. It is in these morning hours, those first glimpses of the day, that our mind is at its most vulnerable. The thinking of Christ is an intentional decision in light of this weakness which we make many times over the span of 24.
It is a primary scheme of our enemy to attack when we are at our weakest. Yet, our answer to this weakness is not a renunciation of our condition, but an unapologetic embracing of it for when we are weak, He is strong. Our vulnerabilities are fuel for His grace. These are the exact points for the light of Christ to shine, warm, and deconstruct. What is following Christ but a series of tiny confessions and choices? For the heart of the Gospel says we are indeed broken and vulnerable. Our mantra is found in our dysfunction. If this is the vehicle that allows me to have more of Him, then why not expose every last flaw?
Spirit come. Invade the darkest corners of my battered mind. Set it in right standing with your boundless mercy. May my thoughts speak of you and your perfect ways over my own. Take all of my weakness and vulnerabilities. Amen.
