so our eyes look to the Lord our God, till he has mercy upon us – Psalm 123:2b
May our eyes be found to be satisfied resting in His image. When He returns, may we be the first to see Him. It is in these times of frustration and struggle that our gaze lowers and we miss Him. The saint has an overwhelming desire to see Him, even when life is hard. They have a faithful belief in His mercy reigning down.
It has been increasingly difficult to watch the news. It almost appears that the world is getting worse. We know, as believers, that this is probably not true. Sin has always corrupted the best of us while reaching into every corner of the human condition. Yet, we almost believed things were okay. We were progressing. Those around us marketed hope in consumerist terms.
We can no longer hold this ridiculous belief. Current events will shatter the lower search for hope in these fatal times. Sin has always been, but now it is marketed. My heart breaks for the world around us, but I see the world growing increasingly weary with this “everything is okay” mindset. In these dubious times, may we look to the Lord. May He provide mercy as a refreshing wave on the barren land of our hearts.
Things are bad, they have always been, but His mercy is coming. And so we fix our eyes. We look out of this world for our only lasting hope.
