35 The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God. – Luke 1:35
The story of Mary is one of complete overtaking. The Spirit of God forces Himself into her narrative, confidently rejecting her life plans. It was this holy interruption that would forever change her trajectory as well as the history of her family.
Where is the Lord overshadowing you?
Faith is a constant taking of the passenger seat. It is remembering the words of John the Baptist: He must increase but I must decrease. When His Spirit is seen over our flaws and opinions, then the power of God can freely move the miraculous. Historically speaking, we still remember Mary in reverence. Yet, she humbly laid down her agenda and fears for the movement of God. Mary never sought out a spot in history. Perhaps the spiritual lessen here is a continuation of the words of John: As He increases, and I willfully decrease, my legacy increases.
Today, let the Lord overshadow you. May one meaningful decision take Him into account and may you find a spot as sidekick to the divine.
