A Prayer For The Tragic

33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33

With another tragedy, comes more questions. One side will search for answers and further regulation out of the hopelessness of the situation, while others will let their preference and patriotism cloud their judgment. It never changes.

Tragedy after tragedy finds no resolution,

simply more questions

fears

division

This is the modern world in which we live.

With the recent events hitting so close to home for us in ministry, I have grown even more appreciation for the safety measures we have in place. At Western Reserve we seek to provide a safe environment for kids and adults in ways many never see. Our volunteer security team are made up of law enforcement and trained specialists who meet regularly to ensure our safety. While you can never fully sterilize the sin of man, the preparation of good men can give us comfort in an otherwise dark world.

As Christ followers, the tragic should never surprise us, but cause us to further mourn for His return. There are situations we can never fully reconcile or prevent and this is perhaps the greatest tragedy. We are too often hopelessly spinning in a cruel and absurd world far from the peace of heaven. In these times where the true condition of the space we live is exposed, we cling to the suffering servant – the God of comfort. We cling not to answers, but relief, for we know there is no credible explanation for the evil that plagues us.

Jesus come. Pierce the fog of this world and rescue us. Give us the clarity of thought to love those we disagree with, as well as those who carry out such heinous acts. We cannot make sense of this without your prevailing grace. Reinforce the shadows of good in this world as you root out the twisted motivations of your fallen people. Give us courage to do what we can, where we can, without hesitation. May we look more like you in this world. Jesus come.
