This Eternal Absurdity

12 Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses. – 1Timothy 6:12

Life is a dog fight. It is a constant battle against the absurd and the ridiculous. I don’t know about you but sometimes I struggle simply to get out of bed in the morning. When we are faced with a fight such as this, we must always ask “is it worth it?” No one likes to fight for no reason, for no purpose. The quagmire of the daily makes a good why a necessity.

Many modern day Christians will tell you their faith gives them a why, but they often can’t articulate it in a coherent and compelling way. In 1Timothy, Paul speaks of the “eternal life” as the eternal why. It is important to examine this when we are caught up in battle. This is not only heaven, but a daily nose down gritty perseverance. Jesus calls on His Father to bring heaven down to earth in His sermon on the mount, and as followers of Him, we are to look for corners of life where we can shine His prevailing grace.

When life is absurd, His purpose remains.

When life is frustrating, His Kingdom still reigns.

Today, be careful not to let this span of 24 have the final say. Your eternal Father has given you an eternal heart for this daily eternity.
