16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. – James 5:16
What is your daily rhythm of life? Do you live out of pattern or necessity?
I’m the type of person who appreciates the rhythm to a point. There are certain unshakable routines – mainly revolving around coffee – that I rarely waver from. The rest of my life can be utter chaos, and those unshakable routines stand firm like a watchtower guiding me home. These habitual movements will betray what we value most. These are to be our refreshment and encouragement.
I have the feeling that James had this in mind when he wrote 5:16. Faith thrives in the rhythm of life. It needs to be worked out, fine tuned, and sharpened daily for it to have the greatest impact. When up against the grind of life, an unpracticed faith stands no chance. I have to believe that what separates the heroes of faith from the average church goer is such a rhythm.
Confession is something we take for granted. Our culture is one of measured vulnerability. We show our hand just enough to be considered transparent, hiding the darkness within us. How would our faith explode if we simply confessed our way through life? How I wish the pretexts of life would be swept away in mutual humility.
What daily faith rhythm should you establish? How could living James 5:16 out daily change your life?
