Monday Motivation

But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. 16 Only let us hold true to what we have attained.                                     – Philippians 3:13-15

What is it about Monday that we hate? It seems to get all our scorn as we violently awake from our weekend and tossed back into the grind of work and obligation. We wake, work, and wonder through another 24 cycles. On days like these, we need to know “why?”

Why do we do it? Why do we “adult” and continue this ballad of broken hearts and deferred dreams (okay, maybe this is too dramatic . . . still, Mondays . . . ugh). They say that those who have a great “why” can endure any “what” (. So perhaps between yawns and blank stares, we should think about the “why” of Monday.

Have a family? Regardless of their gratitude, there is your “why”.

Have a goal; a dream that won’t die? The work you do today makes way for a bigger “why”.

Have a career that has stalled (this is a kind way of saying you hate it)? The more you leverage the dull today for the passionate tomorrow, the more your “why” will pop.

The “why” is there, you just have to work to see it. Buried under frustration and monotony, it can be easy to miss.

Don’t quit.

Don’t settle.

Your “why” will fuel your “what”. Wake up, roll over, curse the alarm clock, and get moving. You got this.
