Faith

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise.  Hebrews 11:8-9

. . . not knowing where he was going    God spoke to Abraham. We sometimes misunderstand how God spoke. Few people I know have heard an audible voice they can attribute to God. Yet, we freely believe that God does speak. Often His voice is a confident whisper into the heart of His children. When we hear like this, we are to examine it under the light of Scripture and religious mentors for His voice will never be contradict His Word.

However, for how often He speaks, He doesn’t necessarily plan. He gives us a vision, often providing the resources, but we have to take some quiet steps into the unknown. God gave Abraham a direction, but not a GPS. God’s direction is more of a compass than a map. This is the heart of true faith. This faith grants us a “why” but not a “how”.

It is important for us to acknowledge the faith of Abraham. For we are the direct result of his “yes” to God. The Church is the consequence of his blind faith.

Your faith has generational impact. Will your faith outlast your lifeline? Will your unknown direction become the legacy for the future Church?

May we have faith like Abraham.
