Oh sing to the Lord a new song . . . – Psalm 96:1a
Oh sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things! – Psalm 98:1a
Jim Brown . . . Bernie Kosar . . . As fans of the Cleveland Browns, we often love looking to the past. While there is always something new involving the team, there is rarely something notable. It is easier to stay in nostalgia than to press on into reality.
When it comes to our faith, we work like Browns fans. We can recall movements that had our Lord’s dynamic hand upon them, but rarely think about a future in which He will do even greater things. Perhaps the Psalmist was singing a new song because He was preparing for a new movement. Sure, he relived the past miracles of God, but they worked as fuel for crazy dreams to come. There is a sense that God has done marvelous things and will continue to do so.
So what is your new song?
I want to live a life of expectancy; to live a life that knows God is still performing miracles within His people. Christ-followers are to live on the edge of hope and reason expecting God to make a way where there is none. When His people begin to dream again, that’s when the Church will explode in urgency.
So sing for what’s to come.
