10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. – John 15:10-11
Here Jesus quickly grazes over something that is revolutionary for us. It is sort of an equation:
Keep my commandments + Abide in my love +My joy in you = Your complete joy
We are all seekers of happy. We want to be happy and wish the same for those around us. Yet happy is a sprint more than a marathon – it does not last. Jesus is aware of the state of happy when He speaks of joy. Our savior always plays the long game. He seems unconcerned with our current happiness and desires more the joy that freely takes on the trials of this world unwavering. This joy is a direct result of finding your place in His love.
Can you truly know His love? Today, ask for wisdom on how to best abide in this. Notice the fruit He so readily produces from this love.
Father, thank you for the joy we have in you. To many, this is a foreign concept. Help us to truly experience your joy and love as we move closer to your heart.
