“I Am The Way, Truth, And Life” Day 4
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” (John 14:6-7)
The Truth
In our current political and social climate, it is difficult to understand how we are to believe and move within the tension. We so thoughtlessly echo the words of Pilate “what is truth?” One of the most beautifully understated qualities of Jesus within the Church is His Kingship. As King of creation, He is above the matters of man. Politics, justice, and race are definitely important to Him, but His Truth rises above it, but His Lordship comes first. When we see this clearly, we then know how to move. As followers, we must be disciplined enough to rise above these civilian pursuits and rest in this Truth.
It is said that Truth sets you free. The freedom it provides is one of clarity in knowing what to fight for and what to let go. It is so easy in our current situation to focus on the trees instead of the forest. The culture we find ourselves in is wrapped in the deity of distraction. We focus on who is in power or the most current point of contention, that we miss our calling. It is easy for our motivation to be crushed under the weight of overwhelming distraction. “What can I do?” becomes “there is nothing I can do.”
Today, be careful what you identify as true. Truth is a person, not an alternative fact. Rage for social justice, but do so under Jesus’ kingship. He alone offers us a soul piercing foundation to base our politics upon. Filter all through His cross.
Lord thank you for saving us from social confusion. Thank you that no matter what the climate of the culture is, you are still on the throne. Guide us to a deeper passion for you and the Truth you provide.
