I Am . . . The Good Shepherd Day 1

This week in “I Am” we will be reflecting on Jesus as our Good Shepherd from Psalms 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters. (Psalm 23:1-2)

A good shepherd provides for those under his care. Sheep are known to be especially needy as so the role of shepherd is to be of even greater importance. The imagery in these beginning verses are that of serenity. “green pastures” and “still waters” can be anything in our lives that refresh our soul. While the whole of territory in our lives can be bustling with a constant barrage of activity, our Lord leads us to the tranquility of His peace.

Sometimes He “makes” us rest. We need it. This world can be unnecessarily busy at times and perhaps the greatest trick of the enemy is to distract us in the fog of “busy”. As these days pass by, they take with them the fractured pieces of our soul until we stand burned out with a wonder of what happened. But in the Good Shepherd there is true rest. Even in the busy seasons of life, He brings us a contentment the world fails to provide.

Today, find your rest in Him. Give Him the space to work in your life by quieting your soul before Him. He is ready to speak and provide rest.

Lord, quiet our souls today. We give you the space to speak into our busy. May we never get so caught up in the 24 hours that we miss you.
