I Am Light Devotion Day 5

for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), 10 and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. 13 But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, 14 for anything that becomes visible is light. (Ephesians 5:8-14)

13 But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, 14 for anything that becomes visible is light. (Ephesians 5:8-14) . . . There is a deceptive belief that Truth is a closely guarded secret. Many will describe a path or journey to a higher understanding. Do you ever feel this way? Personally, I have a tenacious habit of complicating even my deepest held beliefs. Perhaps it is the millennial in me. It is of constant encouragement for me to remember that while Truth can be difficult, it is not esoteric. Meaning, Truth is attainable but never easy.

The “light” referred to here is Christ. His Truth is to be ours and it is what shows the path we have before us. Where He is, there is a visible Truth that we cannot deny. The more we pursue Him, the clearer Truth becomes. As saints purchased by His atonement, we must never buck when faced with His new light. It is easy for us to disregard or try to water down His way, but we must stick with it to yield the result – a life giving, grace saturated, and fear annihilating Truth. His way is better. Embrace His light today.

Lord, continue to shine the light of your Truth on us. Give us the humility to hang on to it and not to simply dismiss what you have done and said. Have the final word in our lives. We give you our life.
