I Am The Light Devotion Day 1

for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), 10 and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. 13 But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, 14 for anything that becomes visible is light. (Ephesians 5:8-14)

For at one time you were darkness . . . It is important to know where you came from. Interesting that Paul says we were darkness and not in darkness. Before Christ’s light, we embodied stumbling darkness. It is also interesting how Jesus says “I am the light“. Our savior embodies emboldened light. Therefore, anyone who has an encounter with Jesus, can never stay the same. In every instance where darkness meets light, the light wins. The word were here is especially important when we remember the moment when Christ interacted with us. His light crushed our darkness and now we have the ability to see the world with His vision. You are no longer tied to the darkness – it has no hold on you. Your DNA has changed.

Take a moment to remember your darkness, then live your day in the newness of His light. You no longer need to stumble.

Dear Lord, thank you for your light. Thank you for taking our darkness and giving us a new perspective and identity.
