Moms Are Kind of a Big Deal

Mothers day at Western Reserve are always great. There is no population of human beings more overlooked than moms and it is refreshing when the Church, in however small a way, can recognize this. Of course a free ice cream sundae, tuned down mimosa, and a devotional can never repay or even represent our appreciation fully, but it does say we are with you. We see your sacrifice and frustration and we hope to empower and encourage as you lead your family.

But this small recognition also communicates something else important: we are family

Oftentimes, the Church does not know what to do with women. Many will suppress them or delegate them to areas with low ceilings. We can disagree with this all we want, but the fact is that any body of believers that does not look for the advancement and thriving spiritual growth of any of its members is a fractured family of followers. We see the importance of the famine voice within the life and ministry of Jesus who also chose women to be the first to encounter His resurrection – a fact that is scandalous for this time period. We see their fingerprints on the early building of the Church and can even trace back the influence of figures like St. Augustine to his mother Monica.

Women, and mothers especially, are blessed and ordained by God for great works. You are part of the family, and we thank you for your unique calling.
