Discipline Day 4

And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (Romans 5:3-5)

A lot of our lives are spent anxiously (or nervously) waiting for the next thing. There is always seems to be a life event we are either looking forward to or dreading. With both perspectives, one thing is clear: you cannot rush time. It is the frustration of many that the one thing they can certainly not control is the 24 hours of each day.

In Romans we see Paul creating a sort of timeline.

Tribulation to perseverance to character to hope

There is no rushing the process. It just sort of happens this way. As many coaches will tell you, there is little controlling what happens to you but the one thing you can control is your response to it. If we are able to surrender to the often slow moving process, then we are able to work the long game of God’s refining work. This takes incredible discipline to not control or rush the God of souls. Perhaps it is comforted by the faith in the end result God promises. Notice that three of the four steps are positive traits.

God wants to refine you, trust His process.

Lord thank you for loving us so much that you wish to shape us into something better. Give us the courage to live disciplined lives and trust you without hesitation.
