27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. (Matthew 6:27-29)
How much is a flower able to control? Probably not much.
How much are they able to influence? Perhaps an entire field.
Sunlight, water, and soil, the Lord grants this to His created bouquet. All their necessities met by the Father of Lights. The lilies of the field are solely dependent on Him while He uses them to show off His dramatic range of beauty. This is the beauty that inspires artists to paint and romantics to dive deep into love. The depth of their ability to reflect their creator gives them an influence that soars past their tiny plot of soil.
We, as children of the great artist, are to be breathing reflections of grace on display for the field that surrounds us.
Our level of impact is equal to our level of obedience. We must take what our harvester offers and use it for a greater purpose. While we do not get the luxury of dictating the terms of our field , we are granted the divine freedom that pours out of the surrender our reorganized purpose provides us.
Worry doesn’t empower, but surrendering to something greater does. Today, surrender with boldness.
Lord, thank you for your creation. As such, empower us to obediently work our plot of land for your glory. When I am tempted to control or worry, remind me of your control.
