Today Is All You Have

14 I have seen everything that is done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity (absurd) and a striving after wind. (Ecclesiastes 1:14)

24 There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil. This also, I saw, is from the hand of God, (Ecclesiastes 2:24)

Take it slow today. Seriously, nothing is so important that you can’t take a moment to breathe in and out. Let the eager driver late for their meeting pass you without salute. Let the wave of cream take over the dark abyss of coffee while it dances in the bleak Midwestern light.

Let life happen.

It is easy to get caught in the grind of a daily schedule. Meetings. Appointments. Deadlines. All of these do a fantastic job of convincing us that this is life. When we find ourselves entrenched in the machine – up to our disengaged hearts in paperwork and priorities – it is easy to simply see life through an awkward obligation. Life is more than the sum of achievements. Remember that what happens today will be but a blip on the map of countless generations. There is something grander at work within the walls of these restricting 24 hours.

Today live courageously and enjoy your life. You only get one.
