Day 5: A Easter Week Devotional

Romans 6:1-14

11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions.(Romans 6:11-12)

There is a difference between being alive and living. The distance between a heartbeat and a purpose is a mile wide. It is one thing for Christ to grant us new life. It is an entirely different matter for us to take that life and live unhindered. The former relies solely on the grace of God, while the latter relies on our ability to fight for better – to create something beautiful with the breath granted us.

Do not fear what is already dead in you. That old self that was crucified with Christ does not need your life support. The end of your former life leads only to death and the instrument of that death, the cross, purchased a life filled with passionate and purposeful heartbeats. This is a redeemed lifestyle. It begins with death, and lives in unadulterated life.

Today, look ahead and not behind. Remember the life purchased for you. Walk in that scandalous truth.

Lord, grant us purpose and the courage to truly live. May our breath be used to sing your glory and our steps move your message forward into the darkened corners of life.
