Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. (Psalm 34:8)
Food is amazing. I mean so are a lot of things, but food might just be my favorite. It is incredible how eating is both a necessity and a pleasure. And while I suppose overly indulging can be troublesome as well as sinful, God has created food and the art of eating to be enjoyed with gusto. It is no surprise then that God uses food analogies to express His faithfulness. Just as the favorite snack you hide from the rest of your family, God is to be savored in secret as much as in public. Food, like pleasure, gets a bad wrap in some faith circles. God truly wants you to do more than survive life – He wants you to enjoy it. Why else would he create pie? Perhaps He is waiting for us to break out of the dusty formalities that hold our rigid faith, hoping we finally start truly living instead of merely getting through.
Today, fear not His goodness. Take refuge in the pleasure He provides. It is okay to indulge a little. We worship the master of eccentricity and the craftsman of pleasure.
