The Rest of God

28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29

Life is often a labor. Our best laid plans are often met with friction and failure. No two days are assuringly alike. Live long enough, and you will swear in a weight to living; an unexplainable burden that feels as much physical as it is restricting. Many days become more about survival than thriving as we pass through like pages on our desktop calendar. Unfortunately this is the toll for modern living, but Christ presents a better way.

You are only as good as the comfort you run to. There is no shortage of things in this world that promise to bring rest and rejuvenation. Some of them work, many of them do not. Jesus offers us another path to take for a more complete restoration. He invites us into a rest where we “learn” from Him. This is perhaps the most important thing for our mind control for His ways are assuredly not our ways. To follow Christ means to surrender what we think we know about life and with arms wide open, ask Him for that which He gives abundantly. It is never promised to be easy but He has promised to be your comfort. His gentle way triumphs over this busy world and it’s incurable demands.

Today, rest in His promise for rest. Take His ways upon your shoulders. Let Him take control of your mind and heart.
