The Quicksand of Modern Living

35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. (Matthew 24:35)

Not much on this earth is guaranteed. Our sure footing of today is tomorrow’s quicksand. The things we believe and hold are often traded in for better models eventually leaving us to adapt or pay the consequences. Life is hard for the type of person afraid of change.

But this might not be such a bad thing.

The fleeting nature of this life make the claims of Jesus stand out like a ray of hope in mass confusion. While everything changes with the tides of culture, Christ quietly and firmly stays as relevant as the day He rolled into Jerusalem. He speaks in hyperbole here to grab our attention. That even in a world of persecution and destruction, His word will still echo in the ears of the saints. He admits to the collapsing structure of this life and by drawing our attention to the brutal facts – that this world cannot hold our hope – He is giving us true perspective.

Your problems will dissolve into thin air. The conflict you are so embroiled in now, will soon be pushed past the limits of memory. His Truth shall give an everlasting comfort and the bedrock of our hope will be our strength. But you must have the courage to hold to a hope that is not shaken by the collapsing pressure of a world that fails in the comparison of our gracious savior.

Today, cling to the only thing able to cling you back.
