38 Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, 39 and by him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses (Acts 13:38-39)
“Freed from everything”. Only in the Christian faith do we witness the most spectacular of events – our forgiveness – and then live the rest of our lives like it never happened. Still burdened by our guilt, shame, and regret, it’s as if we doubt the once and for all decision of Christ. I love how extreme Scripture is in describing the daily work of Jesus. Using words like “all” and “everything” is meant to cover every doubt with the absurd grace of Christ.
Free in theory, slaves in practice
We must remind ourselves daily of our freedom. This transcends how we view the half freedoms of this world and is the only true no strings attached freedom there is because it comes from the One who has no selfish ambition. Freedom should run our days. It should dictate our schedules and shadow our callings.
Today, know that you are free. You are free to fill your day as you wish with the Gospel of Christ being your compass. Like Augustine said: “Love God, then do what you want”. The best thing you can do for those around you is to live unburdened in the extreme grace of a loving God. This freedom is attractive and freeing in a way that the world cannot understand. Live free.
Thank you Lord for your freedom
