Let’s Get Simple

12For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience, that we behaved in the world with simplicity and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God (2Corinthians 1:12

There are many great boasts in this world. Social media was born on this platform but it’s roots are as old as time. I am sure the cavemen boasted at the complexity and savage temperature of their bonfires. To live is to boast. It is no surprise then that the backwards way of God would call us to anti-boast. While our definition of boasting means to draw attention inward, His intention is for it to go outward. We are not to boast in power and control but in meekness and surrender. The things the Lord finds pleasing are counter to the world’s wisdom. Simplicity is too simple a trait to extol. There has to be more. Yet, all our souls cry out for this; something untarnished by this world and it’s burdensome demands. There is an easiness and calm that comes with this lifestyle and therefore hints at the divine.

Sincerity is an unfragmented existence. This is found when who we are meets who we portray to the world around us. It is showing up in the chaos of life and offering breath. It is found in the call of our Lord to those who are hurting and questioning. This perhaps is the most extraordinary calling card of a faith in Christ. In a world that is so heavily charade and fog, Jesus is the quiet gentleman who in His refrain, shows true strength. May we live simple lives as well, having the discipline to stay in the faithful lane of sincerity and hope. Lord, save us from the act – the self promotion of this world. Call us to something greater and a sincere life on fire for you.
