Inviting God Into Your Story

“If you want to make right choices, never underestimate the power of the Holy Spirit. Actively invite Him into your decisions.” Brian Houston

I want to let you in on a secret; I have nothing figured out. I have a sneaking suspicion I am not alone in this befuddlement. We are always so concerned with keeping it together or at least appearing to have it all together, that we hide it under ambitions and planning. As a pastor and more importantly a follower of Christ, it is easy to portray someone who is more advanced than others. I mean, we worship God and that should mean we have all the answers right? We talk about faith and trust regularly while looking at comfort as a four letter word. Is is blasphemy to admit we are more confused now than we were before Christ found us? Where is the peace promised at Calvary?

Perhaps the chief goal of a believers life should be to make room in every decision and movement for the Spirit of God. This doesn’t come easy. We are rugged individuals who are almost convinced in our own autonomy. But we have seen time and time again the fruitlessness of this striving. To invite God into our choices becomes a partnership in the divine reality of redemption. Our lives have greater significance than we can imagine when they are touched by the grace of our Lord. But we must invite Him into our story. As a gentleman, Jesus won’t beg or force Himself into your decision making process. But as James promises: draw near to God and He will draw near to you (James 4:8). There is never an unreturned step toward God.

Lord, we invite you into our decisions. Give us the courage to seek you and the ears to hear deeply what you are saying. Today we will be faced with a hundred choices, may you invade in all of them. Amen.
