Chia Pets and God’s Backwards Plan

20 So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” 21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:20-21)

If you ever find yourself questioning who you are as a follower of Christ, look no further than 2 Corinthians 5:11-21. Many times it is easy for us to brag on our construction, or what God still needs to fix in us. It may be true that there remains a lot,  but remember, you are still His chosen instrument for the world’s complete redemption. You are a carrier of grace called to the darkest corners of this fickle world. We are trusted with the message of Christ. Let that sink in. Jesus, who regularly lets other’s speak lies of who He is and where He came from, allows a confused creation who think Chia pets are a great holiday gift, to represent and announce His plan of redemption. I am not sure about your abilities, but most days I struggle dressing myself properly. I have a beard right now, not because I want to look rugged for the ladies, but because I cannot properly manage my schedule. Really God? Us?

This is all part of God’s incredible patience and His backwards Kingdom. All of our strategy would tell us to go a different way. If it was up to us, we would hire the best PR guys and brand Jesus into a corporate shell – one that is tough on sin, but not TOO tough on sin. His ways assure that Billy Graham and this guy has the same voice and ambassadorship all because He is confident in His message and patient with His creation.

So here we are today with no excuse. No longer can we claim our lack of gifting as a reason not to pronounce hope. No longer can we declare a inability to join in ministry. God knows you are a dope, and He chooses you anyways.

Lord, we could never understand your faith in us. We are flawed and stubborn, yet you love us and make us brave and humble. Continue your work in us today as we take our ambassadorship seriously. May people enter your grace through the work you accomplished through us. Thank you for loving us, even at our worst.
