7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
8 They collapse and fall,
but we rise and stand upright. (Psalm 20:7-8)
There are tons of things we trust in daily. It takes incredible faith to simply walk out the front door in the morning – a faith that things will be as they’ve been, insulated, safe. From sports teams to seat belts, life demands trust. However, we all know, that little in this world is trustworthy. Today our “chariots” and “horses” can be anything. Wealth, privilege, control, family, and even church can wrongly take our trust from the only one who truly deserves it.
As Christ followers, we are called to go beyond simple belief into the realm of action. Trust is kinetic. I believe in BigFoot, but this ridiculous belief doesn’t change the way I live daily. In order to make this whole faith thing work, we have to be willing to stand courageously at the edge of reason and fear without shrinking. While everyone around us lives in fear of the everyday, we must have the spirit of perseverance and peace the world lacks. While the world is entangled in politics and worldly drama, we must rise above to a higher way. It is only through this that the world will see a better, not easy, way to live. This trust is unwavering no matter who wins the election, who leaves our life, or who speaks evil against us. We have a higher calling that is attractive to a hurting humanity.
Today, take a leap of trust. Go from belief to something greater. Rise and stand upright in the shadow of the cross.
