The “Whole” of Our Being

1 I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;
    I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.
I will be glad and exult in you;
    I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. (Psalm 9:1-2)

Our faith only works at full-tilt. It requires the “whole” of us because that is all Christ can work with. The whole is what captures our true affections. What are we giving our best to? The relationship we have with God is different then from what we have with the world. As we surrender to Him, we become more present in the lives of those around us. We become better when we are fully plugged in to the divine.

How do we know that we are wholly His?

When we recount God’s movement in our lives, we are fully focused on the mysterious works of His Spirit. What one man writes off as coincidence, the saint attributes to His master. There are God moments all over whether we recognize or not. This could be described as foolish – to make everything spiritual – but in our system of beliefs where a Creator God gave movement to all around us, everything must have spiritual bearings because all is His. Sure, it is foolish but it is also shalom.

Today, where is the whole of your heart? Are you simply faking it because you feel like you should? Remember His works and the times He has provided out of the mystery of His character. Let yesterday’s provision see you to tomorrow.

Lord, take the whole of me. Recall in me the greatness of your love.
