26 The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: 27 “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me? (Jeremiah 32:26)
We limit God. Many of us live within the unsteady cover of fear; believing that one thing or another will undo us. We don’t feel brave, we don’t feel mighty. In this rationale, we limit the God who placed the earth into it’s perfect spin. If there is a God, He must be above all. By definition, God cannot be limited. If He was than He would simply not be God. In order to follow Christ through the chaos of this world, we must take to the laborious task of aligning our thoughts with His. This means, believing that there is nothing too great for Him. Sure, we share lofty phrases like “God has a plan” or “He is in control”, yet at our deepest level – that silent spot we find ourselves in late at night – we believe there is nothing God-like about God.
The God of all flesh
Peace comes at the end of worry. Christ died to spare us the agony of living in fear. We tend to live reactionary lives, shaping our mood to our circumstances. In this, we find hell to be all too real. God must be King or nothing at all. He never works in moderation. He is not a welcomed distraction from fear but the destroyer of the fear we worship. We must have the courage to foolishly believe that He is in complete control, regardless of the evidence.
Today, who has final say? Is it the pestering voice echoing the corridors of your heart, or is it the reigning King of worry? His love will triumph whether you allow it to or not. We simply have to turn from our brokenness and look to the light. He is King, let Him rule.
Lord, have mercy on us fragile and worrisome sinners. May your grace illuminate the darkest parts of today. We find ourselves in desperate need.
