3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 12:3)
Today we will face seemingly impossible tasks. As we muddle through the work day, attempt to wrangle a group of stubborn kids, or write this weekend’s sermon, we have the temptation to pack it all in – to say that it is all meaningless. Yes, in this life you are sure to be overwhelmed, underpaid, and overworked. Many tasks will seem trite or undoable.
Perhaps in days like these, we need to remember where true strength is foundThe call of Christ is a gentle but persistent command to lay it down. All of it. Every day. It is in coming to the end of what we can do, that we see that life was never to be built on our strength for we are an extremely fragile bunch. Who’s life can’t be completely destroyed with one frantic phone call? It is in this limiting battle that we see something beautiful -the Spirit of the Lord going before us. This passage reminds us that we are even incapable of recognizing God as God without God. So the answer to the chaos of life is never more of me but more of Him.
So today, as the coffee flows eternal and the to-do lists seem unbearable, remember that in His power you can and you will. Not for your glory, but for His. Today, lay down your need for control, your endless tasks, and your achievements and rest in the grace that comes from following a creator who designs and empowers. Trust harder than you work.
