14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world (Philippians 2:14-15)
As Christ followers, we are called to be “done” people. We live in the finished work of Christ, free from the crushing labor of perfection. Yet, our deeds matter. At this point of Philippians Paul is challenging how we are to behave in this world. Notice build up verse before in verse 13: 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. All work is made complete by His Spirit. We simply have to be receptive to Him.
In the world but not of the world
While many believe the current times are the worst ever, I believe a crooked and twisted generation has always been this bad. The need for saints is great. The world is desperate for those who explode the darkness with the guiding light from above. We are to look strange in a world that is burning with questions and heartache. So how we live matters, if not to us, then to those around us.
Today, take heart. The one who conquered all lives inside you. May He be the compass which dictates our behavior and saves those around us. May we not settle for “good enough” but leave it all on this earth which will keep record of our deeds and misdeeds. Act in His grace.
Lord, have mercy on us sinners. Use your saints to restore your Kingdom.
