9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:9-11)
I heard U2 frontman Bono one time say that asking who Jesus is, is the most important question we can ask. Mention his name in many settings and watch backs straighten and ears perk up even 2,000 years later.
What is in a name?
If you are like me, your name means something (mine means “gift from God” . . . .you’re welcome). There is significance in what people call you. Maybe it is honoring a dear relative or maybe the word itself means something. In both cases, Jesus is significant. First, we see how it brings glory to the Father. Jesus is our mediator and friend who is even now interceding on our behalf. Second, it means that He is with us as savior. His name is complete, significant, and will make you decide.
So who is Jesus to you? Don’t simply give the textbook answer – that won’t connect you to Him. How would you describe His interaction in your life? How has He connected you to the Father? How have you answered this most sacred of questions and how do you plan on sharing that identity with others?
Jesus, glory to your name.
