You Are Weak, and So Am I

12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12)

Lately, I have become an expert at “faking it”. For years I have learned some about the Bible and even more about ministry. There comes a time in the career of every pastor where things start to click in place, and if they are not careful, it becomes routine. Shaking hands and kissing babies, it all becomes politics. It is days like these that we must go back to the foundation of our faith. The rock of our weakness and His strength. I appreciate Acts 4:12 because it illustrates both weakness of man and strength of God. Only those in weakness need a rescuer. Have you felt weak recently? If not, you’re lying to yourself.

20 For we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard (Acts 4:20)

Like the life of John illustrates, as we become less, He becomes more. When we truly wrestle with grace and love, we see the rich character of our rescuer. How refreshing it is to see true identity in ourselves and others. May the gospel of God be so defined in our everyday that we can’t help but speak of it – if not by our words then definitely by our actions. I tell my teens to write down things they see God do in their lives so they don’t forget. We need to go back to recount his history of grace in order to remember our redeemed future. He is moving, we simply have to recognize him. The more we appreciate, the more it comes out in our speech and actions.

Today, remember his strength. Recall his amazing grace and tell someone. No, you don’t need to evangelize or start a bible study, but simply let your conversation be peppered with your affections.
