Godly Groans

26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. (Romans 8:26)

What makes you groan? There is a certain struggle that we will find ourselves in from time to time. Being on this earth and longing for more is a natural consequence of our daily breath. There are many times I find myself in bed restless. Wanting to get out of bed for no particular reason, but also wanting to sleep until the second coming. There is a deep urge in man that compels them to want more than they have. It of course is twisted into sin when we see the grass as greener in someone else’s field. Perhaps this is why Jesus speaks so much about peace. We groan as things are with a desire for the way they should be. It would be a mistake to believe that with Christ, our groaning end, yet the opposite may be true.

Jesus is in the redemption business. Somehow in his economy, nothing is wasted. It is often in the depth of our loudest groan where He wants to create a new work. Today, walk toward what makes you groan. Sprint toward the unpleasant groan of your restless mind. Know that the Spirit shades the corners of even the most agonizing uneasiness of your soul.
