I’m not entirely sure that God has a plan for your life. I know this sentiment could be considered blasphemous to many but hear me out. I’ve seen many live as if life was some sort of rubix cube or riddle. That if they pray enough, read enough, attend church enough, they will somehow unlock the secret. Notice, how this way of thinking flys in the face of grace. Do, do, do, not done, done, done.
47 Remember how short my time is! For what vanity you have created all the children of man! (Psalm 89:47)
This language reinforces the thesis of Ecclesiastes that life is “vanity” or meaningless. The Hebrew word used is “hebel” and it can mean a variety of things. Vapor, breath, delusion, futile, hopeless, etc. Scholar Michael V. Fox (no, he wasn’t in Back 2 The Future) says the best way to translate this is the word “absurd”. I don’t know where you are currently but I am sure there has been a time on earth that screamed absurdity. On somedays, the most we can achieve is to, like the poet Dylan Thomas says; “rage, rage against the dying of the light.”
So the question becomes, where is God in the absurdity? In or above it?
Today, search for Christ in the absurdity. In the dirty dishes, body aches, and relational conflict, may the Father of Lights bring you comfort as you long. Take the freedom you have and rage for a better reality. Time is short.
